This looks to be an interesting week on the Bergen County beat with Republicans likely headed to court to replace an Assembly candidate who quit last week and a GOP fund-raiser with Gov. Christie.

Here are a few things to watch for:

1. Campaign finance reports to the state Election Law Enforcement Commission are due Monday. It usually takes about a week before the reports become public.

2. Bergen County first responders will undergo a technology training Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Operations Center at 285 Campgaw Road, Mahwah. Among the subjects, the new InfoShare computer aided dispatch system that the county recently acquired.

3. Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday on the steps of the Bergen County Courthouse to announce a Pedestrian Safety campaign.

Of the 39 fatal motor vehicles collisions last year, 24 involved pedestrians, the Sheriff’s Office said. That’s 62 persent of all fatalities in the county, which is double the state average.

4. The Bergen Community College trustees meet Tuesday at 5 p.m. on the Meadowlands campus at 1280 Wall Street West in Lyndhurst. Among the items on the agenda: approval of an updated code of student conduct.

5. Democratic Freeholders Tracy Zur, Thomas Sullivan and Steve Tanelli begin airing their first commercial of Campaign 2015 on cable television Tuesday. Watch for a link to the ad on the Bergen Beat blog.

6. The Bergen County Freeholders have a work session session scheduled for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the Calabrese caucus room on the fifth floor of the County Administration building at One Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack. No word yet on the agenda.

7. The county will host its annual Italian flag raising ceremony on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in the piazza outside the County Administration building.

8. The Bergen Community College Rotary Club will host a wine tasting benefit on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Biaggio’s , 299 Paramus Road in Paramus. The event is a fund-raiser for the Bergen County Animal Shelter and the BCC Student Veterans’ Emergency Fund. Click here for more information.

9. Republicans from District 38 meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at party headquarters in Hackensack followed by a 7:30 p.m. meeting of the GOP County Committee.

The meetings come as the party appear headed to court to replace former Assembly candidate Anthony Cappola in the normally competitive District 38 on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Cappola withdrew from the race last week amid controversy over a book he wrote. His departure, however, came after the Sept. 8 deadline for candidates to withdraw.

10. An expungement clinic to help people remove criminal convictions for certain non-violent crimes from their record will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the jury room (Room 404) in the Bergen County Justice Center at 10 Main Street in Hackensack. Click here for more details.

11. Gov. Christie will be in Bergen County Friday at 6 p.m. at a fund-raiser for the Bergen County Republican Organization at the Hilton Woodcliff Lake, 200 Tice Blvd. in Woodcliff Lake. The honorees of the evening are the party’s three freeholder candidates: John Mitchell, Daisy Ortiz-Berger and Ken Tyburczy.

12N. The Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood celebrates the installation of its new pastor Rev. Eddie Spencer IV on Saturday at 3 p.m. at 90 West Demarest Ave., Englewood.
